Apache and Kickstart

Postby CassiesOak » 13. May 2020 00:15

I'm not sure anyone here can help, but did not see where there's a forum for kickstart. I'm going to (finally) try to upload my live site to the local site using kickstart. I have kickstart.php and the backup archive in the file folder under htdocs. The question pertains to the database because the database the live site is connected to will be outside of the local server. Does anyone know if this will still work or do I make a database in phpMyAdmin first for it and is there a way to direct it to the local server db in the process? Any help would be appreciated.

We cannot provide any support for third party applications like Akeeba Kickstart. Sorry.
But it is always a better idea to make a backup you never need than to need a Backup you never made.

I wonder if you can answer this, however: I did go ahead and attempt it and all seemed to be working until after the restoration when I received this error:

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in D:\xampp-portable-windows-x64-7.3.4-0-VC15\xampp\htdocs\scripture_test\installation\framework\document\document.php on line 19

Could you possible shed light on this? Thanks for any help you can provide, DJ

You need to increase the max_execution_time setting in your php.ini config file to for example 300

Can I do that in the .htaccess file? What would the line be, like this:
max_execution_time 300
There's a place on the restoration page to increase execution time, but it also says you'd better know what you're doing, but that may be outside the scope of your help. I do appreciate the time.

Apache can override PHP settings with help of the ini_set function. Simply Google for ini_set max_execution_time for the full syntax.

Increasing the limit increases also the risk that a single script or badly programmed line of code occupies your whole webserver, so yes. You should know what you are doing. But first you want to only increase the limit for a single restoration and set it back after everything is running and second your webserver is not in production environment, so if it cannot serve any website requests for 10 minutes nobody should recognize this.

Thank you SOO much! I will try all your suggestions--do not remember it being this difficult to get a site loaded on a local server for test purposes! :)
