How to run it ?

Problems with the Mac OS X version of XAMPP, questions, comments, and anything related.

How to run it ?

Postby iwonder » 02. January 2007 10:27

I installed xampp and started it ..

Starting XAMPP for MacOS X 0.6a...
XAMPP: XAMPP-Apache is already running.
XAMPP: Starting MySQL...
XAMPP: Starting ProFTPD...
XAMPP for MacOS X started.

Now when I open localhost/ then all I get is this, an apache page ..

If you can see this, it means that the installation of the Apache web server software on this system was successful. You may now add content to this directory and replace this page.

Seeing this instead of the website you expected?

This page is here because the site administrator has changed the configuration of this web server. Please contact the person responsible for maintaining this server with questions. The Apache Software Foundation, which wrote the web server software this site administrator is using, has nothing to do with maintaining this site and cannot help resolve configuration issues.

when I go to localhost/xampp it gives me a 404 eror .

Hmm, maybe you have activated "Personal Web Sharing" in System Preferences->Sharing->Services?

This should be deactivated if you run with XAMPP.

Thanks, the XAMPP worked but mySQL is not working , I tried starting it from terminal and the XAMPP control panel. In the control panel when I click start it shows- Starting MySQL ..
and nothing happens after that. If I Click "reload" next to it, it says "mySQL isn't running.... "

You should have read how to install XAMPP. (I made the mistake myself too, was too familiar with the drag-and-drop.)

After downloading simply run the following commands in a terminal:

Installation requires an admin account.
# Enter „sudo su“. You will be prompted for a password.
# tar xfvz xampp-macosx-0.6a.tar.gz -C /

Notice: all old installations of XAMPP for MacOS X will be overwritten!

That's all. XAMPP is now installed below the /Applications/xampp directory.

What are your system specs?

Have you got MySQL installed already? (this could prevent the XAMPP MySQL from working I believe)

Hi,

please also consult your mysql logs which are available at:

/Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/var/mysql

Please paste the last 20 lines here.
Also provide us with the following output:

ls -l /Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/var/mysql

Thanks
