Mailservers for XAMPP-Linux

Postby greno » 11. February 2007 06:30

Has there been any consideration of adding Dovecot and Postfix to XAMPP for Linux?
I run groupware web imap client under XAMPP, and IMAP + MTA servers under XAMPP would be great.

Dear greno!

Yes, there are plans to add Postfix and Cyrus IMAP to XAMPP for Linux. Probably as a special XAMPP Mailserver package.

But currently we don't have any timeline. The first release may be possibly summer this year.

Many greetings

Thanks Oswald. That's great news. Any chance we can talk you into Dovecot instead of Cyrus? Dovecot is way easier than Cyrus to setup and administer. Please take a look at Dovecot.

Yes, Dovecot looks very, very promising. I really hate cumbersome packages and love the lean and easy ones.

Many greetings
Oswald

PS:
Cyrus -> Dovecot
Postfix -> ?

Please allow me to recommend the following tutorial by Joe Topjian for a very simple email setup for postfix using non-unix accounts.

p.s. Oswald, could you please take a look at this posting...

It is in reference to XAMPP reading the actual config file values when testing the ports to determine if the need ports are already in use.

Complete tested source code is included

The tutorial listed above was for an older version of postfix and dovecot (which still works for postfix)

The latest tutorial works with dovecot 1.0+. It is here:

I am in the process of completing my email server. This should not be too hard to adapt to XAMPP. I'll be glad to help.
