Installation problem

i just got a new computer and needed to install xampp on it, on my old machine (iMac G5) i remember installation being a breeze, this time on my new (Power Mac Quad Intel Xeon) i download the file to my desktop then ran the terminal command in the installation instructions and it gives this error:

tar (child): xampp-macosx-0.6a.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

Is there somewhere else i should be putting the file then the desktop in order for it to install properly?

While you execute this command, you must be in the same directory as the archive.

(You must see the archive with a "ls")

thx, worked like a charm, i wonder do you know if there are any apple scripts out there that auto run xampp when the computer boots up?
