How to configure php with postgres and xampp?

If anyone out there has any suggestions on how to get postgres running with xampp I would be very grateful.

I'm a bit new to OS X and considered recompiling php with pgsql support but was unsure where in the xampp structure this should be done or if the result would even work...

I found the postgres plugin for linux... Does anyone know if there is one for OS X? or perhaps this could be used for OS X?

I don't really want to have to roll back my installation as I quite like using xampp (so very full featured). Installing the individual components really would suck!
