phpmyadmin not working

i have installed xampp 1.5 and i had mysql5 installed at different location already. so after i installed xampp it is taking that preinstalled mysql and when i try to access phpmyadmin it is giving me the following error...

#1045 - Access denied for user 'pma'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

is thier anything to do with configurations or setting the path of the pre installed mysql as it is not installed with xampp package???????
