Can't unpack the tar in terminal, file can't be found?

hi Guys,

I'm new to macs so it is probably something simple but i'm getting this error when i follow the installation instructions for xampp, the tar.gz is sitting on my desktop at the moment.

Code: Select all
robin-hawkes-computer:/Users/rawkes root# tar xfvz xampp-macosx-0.6a.tar.gz -C /tar (child): xampp-macosx-0.6a.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

Any ideas?

Rob.

Hi Rob,

you have to change the directory to the Desktop.
In your case a simple:

cd Desktop

before executing the tar command should help.
