XAMPP on CD, USB Flash or HDD

Postby lyntuan » 08. November 2006 00:30

You can run XAMPP(Lite) on CD-ROM or USB Flash or HDD from any folder.

Put AMPstart.exe in the XAMPP(Lite) folder (with AMPstart.ini or not) and start it.

AMPstart.ini

;--- start of ini file ---
[database]
overwrite= ;''=do nothing; 1=overwrite; 0=copy;
folder=copy\DB\to ;use only when overwrite=0 or 1

[website]
website=test ;htdocs\test
startup= ;index.php as default

[cd]
eject= ;1=eject CD door when shut down
;--- end of ini file ---

The relative path in AMPstart.ini comes from the location of AMPstart.ini.

AMPstart starts as an icon in system tray. It finds AMPstart.ini at AMPstart.exe's folder, then root folder of every drive of your system (but network drive). After loading the web server, it locks CD door, starts your home page (see AMPstart.ini).

Double click on AMPstart's icon to shut down the web server and unlock the drive.

The only downpart is that this only works with LITE. Not Basic version.

I want to join xampp, using php and mysql to my autorun interface created by AutoPlay Media Studio.

I created all interface and linked a menu to run the website (a chat, on really).

What i do this?

On CD i created a folder with chat name, and put all xampplite files, including the chat files on htdocs, and put the database on mysql database folder.

Where i put AMPStart.exe?

I must edit the autorun.ini?

BTW: This will work? Is this possible?

Thanks in adv!

AMPstart works with XAMPP and XAMPPlite version.

You put AMPstart.exe (and AMPstart.ini or not) in XAMPP folder (maybe xampp or www or whatever) and run it.

If you want to run XAMPP on CD-ROM, you must edit AMPstart.ini

[database]
overwrite=1
folder=

Download version 1.0.0.15
???

Note: There was an error in previous zip file, please download the new file.

Thanks for a great addition to XAMPP. I have Firefox set as my default browser ... but everytime I launch AMPstart it uses Internet Explorer. Why is this and how can it be changed??

Xampp lite on CD not working

Postby stualk » 11. April 2007 21:30

I'm trying to put Xampp lite onto cd so that it autostarts a php-driven website when the cd is inserted.

I have:
1) unzip xampp lite to c:/xampplite
2) put my website files into the htdocs folder and added my db and tables to phpmyadmin
2) downloaded AMPstart 1.1.0.0
3) added the two files to my xampp lite folder and changed the settings to match what they should be
4) burned the xampp lite folder to cd. First I put all the files/folders into one root folder (d:\xampplite) then I tried put all the files/folders into the root of the cd itself.

Neither of the above methods in point 4 worked. The CD doesn't autostart and if I try to manually run the AMPstart.exe file it eventually says 'server could not start' so i'm getting nowhere with it.

Can anyone see what i'm doing wrong? I need to fix this pretty urgently.
Cheers

1. Put AMPstart.exe and AMPstart.ini in xampplite folder.
2. Edit AMPstart.ini

[mysql]
overwrite=1

or

[mysql]
folder=folder/in/drive/C

3. Make autorun.inf in C:\

[autorun]
open=xampplite\AMPstart.exe
icon=xampplite\AMPstart.exe

4. Burn xampplite folder and autorun.inf to CD
xampplite folder and autorun.inf in root of CD

AMPstart.ini must be in plain text (ANSI), not Unicode.

You can delete all files in Xampp folder as xampp-control.exe
AMPstart can runs without these files
