mod_unique_id error

Postby planb » 15. November 2006 16:11

Hi there

since a few days i get that error 1 message when starting XAMPP. My Log says

[alert] (EAI 7)No address associated with nodename: mod_unique_id: unable to find IPv4 address of "noname"
Configuration Failed

The name noname was there all of a sudden, i have no idea why my mac lost its name in the firstplace - i never called it noname (i did change the router though.. since then my network seems to be strange somehow)

I now uncommented the loading of that module un the httpd.conf
# LoadModule unique_id_module modules/mod_unique_id.so

so it runs again - but does this have any implications whatsoever? I am only using that mac localy for development...

Any ideas?

After searching on -- the problem is solved. Its this

echo '127.0.0.1 noname' >> /etc/hosts

thing at this url

http://community.apachefriends.org/f/viewtopic.php?t=12792

But Why did my hosts file losse its entry in thhe first place? That seems to be very strange...

Hi,

it didn't lose it, it was never there.
It's a OS X thing. Why they don't handle this correct I do not know.

I'll try and automate this fix in future mampp versions

Postby MarkOgier » 18. November 2006 12:49

Hi there

I have installed the latest Apache V2 build from source following some very helpful instructions on the MacPot website (thank you). The build all seemed to go well but the server will not start (it seems, how can I tell for sure).

On checking the errorlog I also have the error message described above

([alert] (EAI 7)No address associated with nodename: mod_unique_id: unable to find IPv4 address of "MarkOMac"
Configuration Failed)

The guy seemed to find the answer but when I looked at the link for the solution the postings are all in German. Can you please Please give me an English translation of the solution. I am so sorry for my lack of language skills, we English are so bad at this.

I hope you can help
Many thanks
Mark

Hi,

all you need to do is add "MarkOMac" to /etc/hosts of your Mac.
Please look at the file to see how the entry will have to look like.
