MySQL is DEACTIVATED

I 'm working on a linux platform and I hane the following problem:

While XAMP work fine, after I install Zend OCI8, Xampp reports MySQL as DEACTIVATED.
If I try to start MySQl via Xampp, it says: MySQL is already started!

Any suggestions?

Check your firewall and make sure that port 3306 is open, or the appropriate port if you changed it.
