Please Help Me: VHosts

Postby maxz2508 » 20. October 2006 08:26

Hi i am having a problem with my virtual hosts with xampp, dont worry i already followed the help you gave to the others but my problem is different.
The problem is that when i setup the virtual hosts like you showed this guy on
Code: Select all
http://community.apachefriends.org/f/viewtopic.php?t=20692&sid=0ceba3685644542d5d339e0c77e0f44e

instead of showing me(lan) and others(wan) who try to access either of the websites the apropriate index page,
Code: Select all
kingdomcrc.org and urose.kingdomcrc.org
, the xampp page comes up inplace of its index page and you see
Code: Select all
www.kingdomcrc.org/xampp/ or www.urose.kingdomcrc.org/xampp/
in the address bar

Here's a copy of my vhosts.conf file

Code: Select all
#
# Virtual Hosts
#
# If you want to maintain multiple domains/hostnames on your
# machine you can setup VirtualHost containers for them. Most configurations
# use only name-based virtual hosts so the server doesn't need to worry about
# IP addresses. This is indicated by the asterisks in the directives below.
#
# Please see the documentation at
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/vhosts/>
# for further details before you try to setup virtual hosts.
#
# You may use the command line option '-S' to verify your virtual host
# configuration.

#
# Use name-based virtual hosting.
#
##NameVirtualHost *:80

#
# VirtualHost example:
# Almost any Apache directive may go into a VirtualHost container.
# The first VirtualHost section is used for all requests that do not
# match a ServerName or ServerAlias in any <VirtualHost> block.
#
##<VirtualHost *:80>
## ServerAdmin webmaster@dummy-host.example.com
## DocumentRoot /www/docs/dummy-host.example.com
## ServerName dummy-host.example.com
## ServerAlias www.dummy-host.example.com
## ErrorLog @rel_logfiledir@/dummy-host.example.com-error_log
## CustomLog @rel_logfiledir@/dummy-host.example.com-access_log common
##</VirtualHost>

##<VirtualHost *:80>
## ServerAdmin webmaster@dummy-host2.example.com
## DocumentRoot /www/docs/dummy-host2.example.com
## ServerName dummy-host2.example.com
## ErrorLog @rel_logfiledir@/dummy-host2.example.com-error_log
## CustomLog @rel_logfiledir@/dummy-host2.example.com-access_log common
##</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost 127.0.0.1:80>
ServerName localhost
DocumentRoot "C:/Program Files/xampp/htdocs"
</VirtualHost>

NameVirtualHost *:80

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName kingdomcrc.org
ServerAlias www.kingdomcrc.org
DocumentRoot "C:/Program Files/xampp/htdocs/kingdomcrc"
ServerAdmin admin@kingdomcrc.org
<Directory "C:/Program Files/xampp/htdocs/kingdomcrc" >
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks Includes ExecCGI
AllowOverride All
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName urose.kingdomcrc.org
ServerAlias www.urose.kingdomcrc.org
DocumentRoot "C:/Program Files/xampp/htdocs/urose"
ServerAdmin admin@urose.kingdomcrc.org
<Directory "C:/Program Files/xampp/htdocs/urose" >
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks Includes ExecCGI
AllowOverride All
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>

And Here's My hosts File

Code: Select all
127.0.0.1       localhost
192.168.254.1   kingdomcrc.org
192.168.254.1   www.kingdomcrc.org
192.168.254.1   ftp.kingdomcrc.org
192.168.254.1   urose.kingdomcrc.org
192.168.254.1   www.urose.kingdomcrc.org

Members should be very cautious about using unofficial third party help sites and should use the XAMPP help files and facilities available from the official ApacheFriends web site.

This thread has been hijacked for obviously devious reasons.

ok this is my http.conf file
Code: Select all
#
# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file.  It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/> for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
#
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do.  They're here only as hints or reminders.  If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path.  If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
# with ServerRoot set to "C:/Program Files/xampp/apache" will be interpreted by the
# server as "C:/Program Files/xampp/apache/logs/foo.log".
#
# NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
# instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache").
# If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which Apache.exe is located
# will be used by default.  It is recommended that you always supply
# an explicit drive letter in absolute paths, however, to avoid
# confusion.
#

# ThreadsPerChild: constant number of worker threads in the server process
# MaxRequestsPerChild: maximum  number of requests a server process serves
ThreadsPerChild 250
MaxRequestsPerChild  0

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path.  If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
# at a local disk.  If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
# httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
#
ServerRoot "C:/Program Files/xampp/apache"

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses (0.0.0.0)
#
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 80

# to be loaded here.

# The directives in this section set up the values used by the 'main'

# <VirtualHost> definition.  These values also provide defaults for

# Apache parses all CGI scripts for the shebang line by default.
# This comment line, the first line of the script, consists of the symbols

# the C:\Program Files\Perl directory, the shebang line should be:

   #!c:/program files/perl/perl

# Note you _must_not_ indent the actual shebang line, and it must be the
# first line of the file.  Of course, CGI processing must be enabled by
# the appropriate ScriptAlias or Options ExecCGI directives for the files
# or directory in question.
#
# However, Apache on Windows allows either the Unix behavior above, or can
# use the Registry to match files by extention.  The command to execute
# a file of this type is retrieved from the registry by the same method as
# the Windows Explorer would use to handle double-clicking on a file.
# These script actions can be configured from the Windows Explorer View menu,
# 'Folder Options', and reviewing the 'File Types' tab.  Clicking the Edit

# This behavior is subject to change in Apache release 2.0.

as you can see i have not made any changes other than the email address (this is because i do not know how to set it for virtual hosts)

and yes the server is running

you will have to explain that comand prompt thing because i dont know anything about it
what im trying to say is that everytime i type in the address of one of my hosts, it carries me to the xampp/htdocs/index.php file instead of the folder i specified

There were some problems in your VirtualHost

Code: Select all
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName localhost
DocumentRoot "C:/Program Files/xampp/htdocs"
</VirtualHost>

Should be the last VirtualHost and after
Code: Select all
NameVirtualHost *:80
not before.

and you had spaces in:
Code: Select all
<Directory "C:/Program Files/xampp/htdocs/kingdomcrc"> and <Directory "C:/Program Files/xampp/htdocs/urose">

Here's the corrected one:
Code: Select all

I can guarantee that Izzy will reply to this and say do not trust third party sites, that is only because he has something against me, but he does know that what I post here are indeed correct, he just doesn't want to mention it. :D

Good Luck.

Members should be very cautious about using unofficial third party help sites and should use the XAMPP help files and facilities available from the official ApacheFriends web site.

This thread has been hijacked for obviously devious reasons.

Code: Select all
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName localhost
DocumentRoot "C:/Program Files/xampp/htdocs"
</VirtualHost>

Has to be under
Code: Select all
NameVirtualHost *:80
because its name based.

Also remember that if someone points to your site through an IP Address instead of Domain Name it will automatically direct them to your first VirtualHost Container.

So its best to have
Code: Select all
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName localhost
DocumentRoot "C:/Program Files/xampp/htdocs"
</VirtualHost>
as the last one so when a user access your site by IP Address it will not go to your XAMPP pages. This will also occur if you purchased a domain name and have not yet created a VirtualHost for it.

Also remember that because you are using the Hosts file you can still test your sites to the fullest without outside access.
