i give up i just dont get it i need some one to set up vhost for me i have been trying for ever now im just not getting it i got 1 ip and cant get name vhost to work can anybody show me how from start to finish

Most of the above entries in the vhost conf file are not necessary because they are already covered by the defaults in the httpd.conf file or in the other conf files in the extra directory and only server to clutter and confuse.

All that they are doing is duplicating the defaults and making the container full of incomprehensible clutter.

You only need to add entries in the vhosts containers that will change the default behaviour of the httpd.conf file and most of the above entries don't do that.

It all depends if you want all your sites to share the same logs, error pages, cgi-bin folder, DirectoryIndex, the VirtualHost I provided is what you will see from most Hosting Companies, and it allows you to fully customize each site.

And Izzy I'm sorry that you feel that way. I can guarantee everyone here by following the Tutorials and using the Generators at XAMPP Tutorials they will be receiving the highest security possible.

Not to mention that XAMPP Tutorials was started by me an advid user of XAMPP and the first to create easily to follow tutorials "Beginners Guide for XAMPP" just about a year ago. Here's the thread: http://community.apachefriends.org/f/viewtopic.php?t=14173

Xammp is not intended to be used in any hosting situtation nor is it designed to be used in a production environment as pointed out clearly by the developers. There is no need for pointless complexities for the average XAMPP user.

My experience with the above site was one of countless fundamental errors which were mostly reproduced from the ApacheFriends site and which were not being addressed.

XAMPP already has an alternative to using a 'one click installer'. Just download the zip files and extract to a directory of your choice. What could be simpler.

did just cut and past vhost only and shutdown and redtarted apache on stays running for 2 seconds then shuts off ???

Create the following folders in E:/xampp/htdocs/faweb and E:/xampp/htdocs/fawilson

Folders:
cgi-bin
errors
logs
and if you want you can add a .htaccess file to each.

and error pages 400-506

I know Izzy shall be replying soon with a simplier VirtualHost, but the one I provided you allows each website to have its own log files, cgi-bin, error pages, rather than sharing just one among all your sites.

I will not be posting any more in this thread as it is obvious that your postings here have been designed to disrupt and confuse the original poster with your needlessly complex efforts at configuring a simple working vhosts container which is only what the majority of XAMPP users and the original poster requires.

Why introduce more needless directives that may add to Apache not been able to start, as in the case above, and create more problems in trying to solve the original issue.
There is also no need to download any files to achieve a simple working configuration.

I had already constructed a working vhosts file in another thread that the original poster requested. I was even able to connect to the sites. If only you had bothered to do some research reading, which you seem to have difficulty in doing.

Once a simple and effective virtual host container has been created and is deemed to work in it's simple form, then, and only then, would be a good time to introduce custom configurations to suit an individuals needs. Not all configurations will suit all situations and adding them at the start, in a general fashion, will only add to the confusion if things go wrong, as in your efforts at a virtual container above.

It does not need much deviation from the defaults that have already been worked out by the more than competent XAMPP developers.

There have been many members who have followed your "tutorials" and have had to come back to these forums to sort out their mess.

These virtual host configuration files you keep plugging here are not needed by the majority of XAMPP users and one has to ask the question, are you only disrupting other people's threads to fill the forums with plugs for your site - when it is working?

I say again, members should be very cautious about using unofficial third party help sites and should use the XAMPP help files and facilities available from the official ApacheFriends web site and from within the configuration files, in the form of comments for each directive that have been, in some cases, provided by the developers.
