Go to this file and drag it into your text editor:
C:/Program Files/xampp/htdocs/xampp/.htaccess

Find the section in your .htaccess file mentioned above and fix how it looks from this:
D:\\apachefriendsC:\\Program FilesC:\\Program Files\\xampp\\security\\xampp.users

To this:
AuthName "xampp user"
AuthType Basic
AuthUserFile "C:\Program Files\xampp\security\xampp.users"
require valid-user

Save the file and you should be set to go.

This is often coursed by using the setup-xampp.bat file more than once or using it when you have no need to.
You may have more path issues relating to the double \\ in other places on your XAMPP installation that the bat file changes, these can be fixed by removing one of the back slashes similar to what is outlined above when this problem is raised by another process.

Alternatively if this is a new installation then you could always delete this installation completely and reinstall. If you install to the default location like you did above then there is no need to run the setup-xampp.bat file.
