Just got ADSL..

Postby dobbelina » 24. September 2006 07:13

Hi !
I never had any problems with my xampp 1.5.2 server before.
Earlier when I was on dial-up, I could always access my test sites
via "Localhost" and by typing in the ip assigned by my host while on-line
in my browser.

However, after getting ADSL, now only "Localhost" works ?
I have forwarded the "80 port" in my router to my machine, and has set
the tcp/ip settings to a "static ip" but when typing in the ip adress, I only get taken to the router index page ?

Other forwarded ports (such as 4662 for emule) does work, as i'm, getting the "green lite" after configuring the router.

Could someone give me a tip what I need to do to get this to work, thanks

Ho ho ha ha I figured it out !
Now it works
You CAN NOT test a server by trying to log into the EXTERNAL (or “Public”) IP address (the WAN interface) from a computer that is located on the INTERNAL (or “Private”) side of the router.

The router simply WILL NOT pass the connection attempt through from the Local LAN side OUT to the External WAN side of the router, then BACK IN to the Local LAN side, to the server.

Here's a very good article that explains it all, and a workaround how to test
if your site is on-line or not using Babelfish (At least mine was):

Good to see you got it working, must be a wonderful feeling.

Thanks for posting your fix as it will help others searching for a answers to a similar issue.

You would be amazed how many people would not have bothered to do what you did.
Thanks again >>>
