Apache can't bind

Postby recordista » 08. September 2006 02:09

I have a mail package with its own httpd which binds to two of my three IP addresses. I've edited /opt/lampp/etc/httpd.conf so that apache is binding only to the unused IP address, yet I still get

XAMPP: Another web server daemon is already running.

whenever I try to start XAMPP.

Running an netstat -l shows bindings only to the two addresses expected.

Thoughts?

Manually starting httpd binds to the expected address. This looks like an issue with the XAMPP scripts not understanding the httpd.conf file?

Any suggestions on this?

2 apache servers on the same port is a no no. Change the listening port on one of them.

There is only one apache server, and it is configured to bind only to the address which the mailserver does not bind on port 80 or 443. Again, starting apache with its own default script works fine, but the XAMPP script does not start httpd.

Looks like the simple solution is to just edit the "lampp" script to change the ports to match your changes in httpd.conf and/or httpd-ssl.conf.

Just open the "lampp" file and do a search for 80 and then 443 - you'll see what I mean - you just change it to match your new port number and you're set (doesn't address the issue of doing this with multiple IPs, xampp on one and something else on the other - but works great if you want to just use a different port).

Thanks, but there's no use in picking nonstandard ports--need to use 80 and 443.
