Has anyone tried XAMPP and Gallery together? I may be putting it on the windows or Linux Version.

I have not installed it on either OS.
Some reading here might help as I did some research after your post with a view to doing an install on XAMPP for Windows.

http://www.google.com/search?&q=gallery ... or+Windows

http://gallery.menalto.com/forum

Seems that it should not be a problem on either OS.

Why not give it a go and post back if it was a success and maybe a small 'How-to'. :)
Thanks.

I had time to install to-day.
So here is what I did which lead to a successful outcome.

I downloaded the full version from:
http://gallery.menalto.com/downloads
gallery-2.1.2-full.zip

Unzip the whole gallery2 directory to your web root directory (htdocs or some other you have as a web root).

Go to:
http://localhost/gallery2/install/

or

http://yourwebsite.tld/gallery2/install/

safe_mode = On in xampp/apache/bin/php.ini gives a couple of warnings.
I changed it to safe_mode = Off which is an installation requirement.

If you want to keep your overall php safe_mode = On in the php.ini file and only have safe_mode = Off in Gallery2 then use a .htaccess file in the gallery2 directory.
Put this line in the .htaccess:
php_admin_flag safe_mode off

Note: Don't use this line in the .htaccess file which would normally be the directive to use.
php_admin_value safe_mode off

Now just follow the Gallery 2.1 Installer Steps.

I got this message at the end which only took a couple of minutes all up.

Finished!

Congratulations! Your Gallery 2 install is complete!

See... that wasn't so hard, was it? Now it's time to upload some photos!

Note: Check out the Short_Check_List checks mentioned during the install Security Check Step and follow the instructions as best you can but follow the item with regard to the .htaccess file. File permissions on Windows are somewhat more difficult to change and usually the Windows defaults will have to do.

Click on Go to my gallery! button and there it was in all it's glory. :D

Too easy!

Any problems with the administration of Gallery2 should be addressed to their forums:

Good luck with it!

Great Job!!! I was hoping XAMPP would work with Gallery. I have a normal install of Apache 1.3.2 and Gallery 1.5 . Of course these are old now and I was thinking of updating using XAMPP. Apache is great but when installed by itself you have to add PHP, ImageMagick, ActivePerl, along with a few other things. It just gets a little painfull if you know what I mean. Well, Thanks again for the great write up.......

After installation is complete and successful and you have accessed the Gallery Site Administration page you will see the Modules menu item.

When you click on this you will see that there are various modules that need configuring.

Some of these modules require binary executables like zip, unzip, ffmpeg and dcraw, just to name a few, to be configured and then activated.

This page has links to most of them:
http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gal ... quirements

I extracted/copied the archives/files into seperate directories under the xampp/apache/bin directory.
zip.exe and unzip.exe in a directory called zip
dcraw.exe in a directory called dcraw
Etc. etc.

When I add the path to the config in the module admin page I use the full path like this:
C:\xampp\apache\bin\zip\zip.exe
C:\xampp\apache\bin\zip\unzip.exe
Etc.etc.

Your path may be different.

I had a successful install on every occasion.

This might save peeps much time trying to find out how-to do this. ;)

standalone one click installations

Postby breynsv » 23. November 2007 14:38

Hi all,

I have a question, I"m looking for a one click install. I saw this message on the forum of Gallery http://gallery.menalto.com/node/48831#comment-258314

I'm developing a small application and I would like to have a small website setup locally on serval pc's. this application should be a simple web appliction written in php, with mysql db.
The guy on the gallery site made a one click install of 20mb, with xampp and the gallery website nicely embedded.

Can anybody help/explain me how to do this?
The site of course I know how, but the one click install with everything configured correctly I don't know. (I have no experience with windows installers etc)

THANKS A LOT!!![/url]

Opening in Borland delphi fails

Postby breynsv » 26. November 2007 08:32

Hi There,

When I try to open the source code in delphi, it fails.
I try to open the dpr (project file) in Borland 7 and immediately thee CPU flies to 100%. It stays there for as long as I don't end the program in the task manager.

I tried opening it with Borland 6 as well, on a different pc...
Same result!

Does anybody know how to do this? Or how to remake the project?

Thanks
