Apcahe won't restart

OK i had to stop apache as i made changes to the http.conf file and it won't start again,actually it starts for a split second then stops again, i'm using xp, when i go to the settings on the control panel apache is unchecked and if i check it it makes no difference.
Any ideas?

did you check the logfiles for any errors?

if you're using windows, then try looking in the "logs" folder inside of the "apache" folder.

don't know where to look as linux user, sorry

yes found em and have these,

now it seems intermitant that sometimes it starts and some times it won't, do these mean anything to you.

OK I posted yesterday about Apache not restarting, and i think i have found out why, I was trying to edit the http.conf file to learn about mod_rewite, and it never restarted after i made the changes, so i undid the changes and now it works again, so how do i practise mod_rewrite?
Any thoughts would be appriciated as i need to practise it.
