Memory usage and system crashes!

Postby Dacapo » 07. July 2006 15:16

I did a manual install of ver 1.5.3a. I also did the memory mod for command.com

shell=c:\windows\command.com c:\windows /e:2048 /p

I'm running W98SE, 512M ram on a home built 1G AMD Athlon processor. Granted, windows memory management STINKS, but I seem to completely run out of system memory sometimes within minutes of starting XAMPP. It can happen even if I'm just running Apache, and not mySQL. Once I start mySQL, and especially if I'm running phpBB, I get a few minutes to work and my system memory is totally used up, resulting in a system crash.

I start Apache and mySQL with the xampp control panel. I then close down (but not exit) the panel. I do not start them using _start.bat. I'm wondering if the control panel has something to do with this problem? Sometimes even before my memory starts to run out, I get a "PV has performed an illegal operation"

PV caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 0177:bff88396.

Stack dump:

I have yet to run either FileZilla or Mercury. So, the problem is with either Apache, mySQL, or the Control Panel. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

BTW, XAMPP is an awesome program :D A BIG thanks to the develpement team! Other than the memory problem, this is the best all-in-one webserver program I've ever found!

Thanks ... John

Ok, I found the problem. It's the control panel. Please go to this thread for explanation ...
