How to upgrade?

Postby rbo07 » 05. June 2006 10:21

Does anyone know how to upgrade a version of xampp easily?. (without uninstall the old version and databases) Or do i have to uninstall the old version and make backups of my databases?

Thanks for your reaction!

Here's a copy of a note I wrote to myself that I find helpful. Of course, the paths are specific to my installation; change them to fit yours.

Xampp Installation Notes:

When installing an upgrade, it seems to work best to uninstall the current version first. Be sure to answer NO when prompted to delete the MySQL folder and the htdocs folders. That's where all your work is! Uninstall.exe is found in the E:\Webpages\xampp folder.

When Installing the new version, specify the install folder as E:\Webpages. It will really install it into E:\Webpages\xampp. That's where you want it. Run the xampp-win32-#.#.#-installer.exe from the download directory.

Don't be confused by the existence of an xampp folder within htdocs. That's the folder with the control panel, etc files.

There's probably a better way, but this works for me. Also, the uninstall and reinstall don't really take very long.

After doing this I get a Server Error (500)

Known with this problem?
