Mysql Stored Procedures

I have xammp installed on both a MAC and a linux machine... works fantastic I love it... I decided to get to grips with stored procedures with mysql 5.0. on the MAC

However when I run the "mysql_fix_privilege_tables" script I get the following error.

"Please use --basedir to specify the directory where MySQL is installed"

If I follow the directions in the mysql docs, and modify the my.cnf file in /etc then mysql will not load when starting xammp.

I would be happy to use phpmysqladmin if I knew what the table structure was for the stored procedures.. or if someone else had a workaround...
