Using Xampp to host internet pages

Once secured (/opt/lampp/lampp security) can Xampp be used to host webpages or should it be strickly used in a development environment?

why should'nt it?
its just apache mysql and php, to my mind nothing else than apt-get install apache mysql php or emerge or rpm -i or or or, but in any case ready for production mode...
