XAMPP: Error 1! Couldn't start Apache!
XAMPP: XAMPP-MySQL is already running.
XAMPP: Starting ProFTPD...
XAMPP: - getaddrinfo 'BigMac' error: No address associated with nodename
- warning: unable to determine IP address of 'BigMac'
- error: no valid servers configured
- Fatal: error processing configuration file '/Applications/xampp/etc/proftpd.conf'
XAMPP: Error 1! Couln't start ProFTPD!
XAMPP for MacOS X started.
BigMac:/Applications/xampp/xamppfiles root#

I have seen this already posted but was unable to completely follow along. It looks like I need to add an entry with my hostname in "/etc/hosts". And my hostname should be "Webserver". I cant seem to find "/etc/hosts". Where is the hosts file?

thank you

Still Having trouble with XAMMP

Postby atstockland » 14. January 2006 18:21

I opened /etc/hosts in the terminal...using sudo of course. Trying to follow instruction I saw posted I tried to add a line including my hostname. When I type "hostname" in the terminal it returns "BigMac", which is also my computers name. Not sure exactly what to do I tried this.

The original file looks like this:
##
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost

I edited it to look like this, but it didn't work:
##
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost
BigMac hostname

Any ideas.
I noticed also that there isnt an entry for HOSTNAME in /etc/hostconfig/. I tried adding "HOSTNAME=-BigMac-" but that didn't do anything either.

Please help if you can
thanks

I cant thank you enough twinn233. Im excited...now I can get back to work.

If anyone else reads this and is having the same trouble. Open up Terminal type the following:
sudo su
enter your password
cd /
cd/ etc
pico hosts

There is your hosts file.
