XAMPP Contol - Apache process does not start?

I'm running XAMPP 1.4.14 and occasionally I have to uninstall XAMPP several times before the CONTROL application will actually load apache in to memory. The problem is it mysteriously does not load Apache (but it loads other proccesses if I try them). How the heck do I fix this without uninstalling the software eight million times?
