Apache will not start: Error 2 (SOLVED!)

Puppy linux 1.0.5, 2.4.29 kernel. When running /opt/lampp/lampp start, get the following error:

selinuxenabled: No such file or directory
Starting XAMPP for Linux 1.5.0...
selinuxenabled: No such file or directory
selinuxenabled: No such file or directory
XAMPP: Starting Apache with SSL (and PHP5)...
XAMPP: Error 2! couldn't start Apache!
XAMPP: Starting Diagnose...
XAMPP: Sorry, I've no idea what's going wrong.
XAMPP: Please contact our forum http://community.apachefriends.org/f/
selinuxenabled: No such file or directory
XAMPP: Starting MySQL...
selinuxenabled: No such file or directory
XAMPP: Starting ProFTP...
XAMPP for Linux started

Ideas?

Look in the weblog area for startup logs and read what they say.

From /opt/lampp/logs/apachestart.log

/opt/lampp/bin/apachectl: [: Too many open files
/opt/lampp/bin/apachectl: /opt/lampp/bin/httpd: Too many open files

Unless your kernel is not setup to open enough files which would be a bit unusual and you don't already have a lot of other files and processes running... I don't know.

in the lampp/bin/apachectl file change the line that reads .....
ULIMIT_MAX_FILES="ulimit -S -n `ulimit -H -n`" chaged to --->>
ULIMIT_MAX_FILES="ulimit -S 1024"

And it works!

Thank you for putting me on the right path by having a look at the error logs ... duh!
