Installing Xampp

Postby London » 06. November 2005 01:34

Hello how are you?

I have Apache 1.3, PHP 4. something and Mysql that I installed myself(manually) over a year ago, I now want to install Xammp, is there going to be any conflict?

Do I need to un-insall anything first?

Thanks.

Completely uninstall XAMPP and your old apache and MySQL and delete every thing in your registry that relates to Apache and XAMPP. Manually delete the folders that are left behind then reinstall XAMPP and you should be fine.

Is there any programs available that I can use to delete files from my registry, where can I find them, when I did a regedit run, it look too intimidating, maybe you can point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

You only need to delete
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\Apache2

then reinstall XAMPP

I did that and installed again...Apache2 successfully installed Port 80 and 443

MySql service seems to be installed! Abort

Congratulations The installation was succesful, start the Xampp control panel now.

Everything's running but the MYSQL database...when I click on status and look at the PhpMyAdmin I get this.

Ok it's working now.....it places a traffic light icon next to Xampp icon in the systems tray right?

How come it doesn't have the Green "Runnin" next to it like APache when viewed in the control panel? and the Admin panel button is not highlighted.

Hmmm, could this be my old MYQL running? and not Xampp's one? looks like it.

..............

I'm making myself look like the ultimate rookie...ok now the Running is highlighted in Green like apache and the Admin button is lit up but when I click it, the green running goes off ... is this normal?

I'm off to class now..thanks for reading my rants.

The traffic light is winsql. Check to see if you can access phpmyadmin if you can't the means MySQL is not running.

Delete:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\mysql
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\mysql

Then reinstall MySQL and Reinstall it as a service

but if that doesn't work then start all over by deleting:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Apache2
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\Apache2
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\mysql
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\mysql
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\FileZilla Server
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\FileZilla Server

and reinstalling XAMPP.

The reason why MySQL didn't load is that the new mysql is installed in a different directory then that listed my the service so it couldn't find the file to start MySQL.
