Safe Upgrade Path from XAMPP 1.4.12 to 1.4.16

What is the reasonably safe way to upgrade from XAMPP 1.4.12 to 1.4.16?

Also, my current install directory is apachefriends\xampp\xampp which I thought was the default, but that sounds like it is at least one or perhaps two levels too deep. What is the appropriate default directory for the XAMPP installation?
