can someone explain this to me?

i was playing with xampp and i zipped all the content inside htdocs and deleted all the files, then i put a my own index.php in the htdocs.
when i pointed the browser to http://localhost, i was ri-directed to http://localhost/xampp/index.php.

Why was i re-directed?
What file should i edit to change this?

Are you sure you deleted index.html? If so, try clearing your browser cache.
