cannot log in to mysql server mysqli_real_connect():

I am using windows 10 and xamp v3.2.2. I set a password in config.inc.php and I get the following error message:
"cannot log in to mysql server mysqli_real_connect():)HY000/1045):Access denied for user 'root@localhost' (using password: yes).

if I remove the password, I can log in to phpmyadmin with no errors. I would like to set a password. Where do I set or reset the password in mysql. Is there an easy way to correct this issue.

Also how do I insert an image or images

Do you just edit phpmyadmins config.inc.php?

What are your reasons to set a password? In most cases this is not needed.

I just edit phpmyadmin config.inc.php. Regarding a password, I really do need one. how do I fix this problem. Thanks

The phpmyadmin application in xampp is by default only accessible from localhost, so only people operating on this specific system and script are able to login.
Is that not security enough in your environment?

I had a password set before, but I had to uninstall my old xampp and installed a new one. I had a bit of trouble with apache, mysql, filezilla services which I fixed and got phpmyadmin to work.

I am just more comfortable in setting a password, if it is possible and easy to fix. thanks

Login with phpmyadmin and set your password for user root there first.
After that you need to change the password variable in phpmyadmins config.inc.php file.
