xampp v3.2.2 installed no errors encountered, cant run PHP

I am learning the basics of HTML, CSS, PHP and mysql. I can't get ANY php code to work as advertised in the help or reference books.

XAMPP control panel shows Apache and mysql started, no errors.

Windows 10/64 byte, php.ini in C:\xampp/htdocs file.

Any help/hints/trouble shooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

How do you run your php files?
Where are they saved?
What does your browsers addressbar show?
What error message do you get?
