This could be related to the file permissions. Could you change the permissions of the files so "others" can also edit them? You can do from the Terminal and running "chmod -R 777 /path/to/your/files"

That is a great suggestion thanks. We will look into this.

Then it popped up saying interuptted connection with a pic of my lamp root folder with an eject button.

We improved the way of mounting files in the latest versions of XAMPP VM. Could you download a new one? If you do not have any data into the VM, you can clean the directory for removing the previous VM "~/.bitnami".

Seems to be working fine for me. But can not find any documentation related to Virtual Host configuration, which is usually a must while developing apps locally.

Can you shed some light on this?

I really wish you guys had not made the VM version the default for Mac, as I just wasted a few hours downloading it and figuring out it was not what I expected and that I can't use it.

Honestly I don't understand the reason for this exercise in the first place. The point of XAMPP is the "X" - cross-platform - not "load Linux in VM so you can run LAMP in it." I don't buy the argument about greater compatibility between dev and prod environments. At best, it will be a very small minority of XAMPP users who are writing code where this would even matter, and those people have long since installed their own VMs. Besides, all my prod servers run Ubuntu, and your VM is Debian, so... it's still apples to oranges.

For me, however, the biggest annoyance comes from the fact that I routinely need to work on projects from different computers. As such, I never use the XAMPP htdocs folder. Usually, I set up a virtual host pointing to a synced folder elsewhere on my machines, so I can just pick up and go without having to worry about things staying in sync. That's impossible to do in the VM version. I'm also a lot more comfortable knowing my project files are being backed up on my machines using native backup utilities instead of being lumped into a single VM image.

I really dont understand what made you believing the VM version is "default" for Mac?? Lets go to the download page of Xampp, https://www.apachefriends.org/download.html and lets see, what Bitnami offers: in the OSX section i can see four(!) different downloads, the first three are "normal" installations, and only the very last link points to the VM.

What / how / why does this make the "default for Mac"? I really cannot understand that. From my point of view, the VM version is just the opposite of "default", it is the last of four different downloads. Just in case, i have a screenshot:

What the hell makes the very last entry the "default" for you??

Not a fan. I run linux VMs for test development at work, but this does not behave as I would expect. The overall implementation is awkward; the learning curve to get things running the way I like is not worthwhile. So the concept is nice, but I'll be using the traditional version.

I agree that providing this as the default Mac option is probably not wise.

What makes you believe, that VM is "default" Mac option? From my point of view it is the very last option of many different options, there is no "default" option, what are speaking about?

Not in the Satrting page https://www.apachefriends.org/index.html
There is only one version for each operating system directly downloadable and thats the VM version for Mac OS X.
I don't know why.

Hi!,

I am trying to create a Virtual Host on my mac, I got "Site can't be reach, refuse to connect". I used to do it in a minute with older version, but recently I reinstalled my computer and now trying out this new xampp, how I used to do it isn't working with the new xampp. I'm getting so frustrated! Please any help appreciated ??
regards,

XAMPP-VM works great. Only feature I'd request is a way to save the network port forwarding rules I create so they at least show up automatically in the list each time I start the app. Would save me about 2 minutes every day.

love the idea of vm however:

1) I failed to map port 80 to 80, only other port to 80
2) I can't change the file owner in htdocs, it is always 1000, and gave me permission denied. perhaps i need the root password?
3) I am confined to htdocs, cant create other folder for my vhost need, i ended up create htdocs inside htdocs and change my apache config to point to it like this:
- /htdocs/htdocs
- /htdocs/vhost/abc.com

It doesn't work with XDebug so isn't really suitable for complex dev. work.

Hi all,

Do we have reference how to set up the virtual host? I have following this article https://jonathannicol.com/blog/2012/03/11/configuring-virtualhosts-in-xampp-on-mac/ but I got an error when starting the Apache.
