[MAGENTO]Apache shut down unexpectedly

Postby webipgroup » 07. September 2015 07:45

Hi everyone,

I got an issue I don't know how to solve. Since friday I'm trying to install Magento on Xampp, with scarce results. I first tried using Bitnami, but the installation process stopped at 99% without going further. Then I tried manual installation and, after few attempts, I succeded. The problem is that everytime I tried to install Magento, something happened to Apache that shutdown unexpectedly and never restart again. The first time I uninstalled Xampp and then reinstalled it again, and it worked for the session, but this morning I went to start it and even if MySql started, Apache returns the following error message:

8.34.14 [Apache] Error: Apache shutdown unexpectedly.
8.34.14 [Apache] This may be due to a blocked port, missing dependencies,
8.34.14 [Apache] improper privileges, a crash, or a shutdown by another method.
8.34.14 [Apache] Press the Logs button to view error logs and check
8.34.14 [Apache] the Windows Event Viewer for more clues
8.34.14 [Apache] If you need more help, copy and post this
8.34.14 [Apache] entire log window on the forums

At the beginning I thought it was a problem of the port, due to Skype. I uninstalled Skype, uninstalled Xampp and reinstalled it, and it worked for a while, but today the problem has shown again, so I don't know from what it depends. Any clue about it?
For completeness' sake, I have to say that until friday I used Xampp for two months with no problems and I created three websites in locale (with the Bitnami module for WordPress). The problem showed only when I tried to install Magento.

Thanks to everyone who can help me!

Hi,
I am getting exactly the same error.
You have asked question during 2015 and its a pity that its Aug-2017 and still there isn't any reply.

I'm quite sure that you have figured out some solution.

Could you please let me know?

Steps I have already tried:

1. in httpd.conf file changed the port from 80 to 8080. So the values are changed to Listen 8080, ServerName localhost:8080
2. in httpd-ssl.conf file changed the port from 443 to 4433. So the values are changed to
Listen 4433 and VirtualHost _default_:4433 and

I am still getting the error.

Someone please help me.

Hi,

Maybe it is not a port problem in your case. So don't guess the reason, analyse it.

Hi Altera,

Thanks for your reply.

I guess I figured out the issue.
Actually, I use Windows 7, 64 bit.
Xampp is only available for Windows 7, 32 Bit. [I was not using Skype and VPN so those factors are excluded it selves]

Once I installed Wampp it get installed smoothly. Wampp is installed on Localhost port no 81.

I am not sure whether this was the issue. But on Wampp server it is working smoothly.

XAMPP is running on 64 bit systems very well, even it is compiled in 32 bit.
So no, that is not the problem.
