Running multiple XAMPP installations (not simultaneously)

Postby laptopalias » 24. August 2016 11:36

I have an XAMPP installation running perfectly happily on my desktop.

I'm about to start trialling PHPCOLLAB. I'd like to run it from (and keep it completely contained within) a USB stick.

So, a separate XAMPP installation, with a separate database.

I appreciate that I may not be able to use both installs simultaneously. That's fine.

But what do I need to do to switch from one to the other? Presently, when I stop services and then run XAMPP Control from the USB stick, it says:

Current Directory: J:\phpCollab-xampp -- That sounds right
Install Directory: c:\xampp -- but I guess I've done something wrong here.

Any help appreciated.

If you use windows services you need to change the expected service names of the xampp installation which is not using the services.
This is a setting you can find in the configuration of the XAMPP control panel.
We don't provide any support via personal channels like PM, email, Skype, TeamViewer!

Thanks, so in this instance, I guess that means renaming something within the desktop installation (C:\xampp) ?

I dont think you can run Xampp as a service from USB Sticks, as the Drive Letter (and also the driver) is loaded after the Windows Services are started. Instead simply run Apache, MySQL etc. directly from the Xampp Dialog.

I'm happy to run it from the dialog. I just can't figure out how. :-(
