Users inside network can't hit my XAMPP Apache Server

Problems with the Windows version of XAMPP, questions, comments, and anything related.

Users inside network can't hit my XAMPP Apache Server

Postby Scoot » 19. July 2016 17:12

I'm working with XAMPP 5.6.19.

Users on the internal corp network cannot hit my xampp apache server using the same urls I can use successfully to hit the same server on my system. I send URLs using IP address or hostname. I don't believe this is a network or firewall issue because users can hit other webservers on the internal network using port 8080, as can I. I feel that the answer my reside in either httpd.conf or httpd-xampp.conf but I can't isolate this is for this version.

Anybody have any ideas?

Can these users ping your webserver?
is there any request from these users reported in the Apache error.log?

99,9% not an XAMPP issue. Without knowing anything about your specific configuration impossible to analyse.

Thanks for your insight.

The users are able to ping my system that is running the web server. If you want to see the screenshot of the error, do I have to host the image somewhere? Also, if you wanted to see my config files, would I need to copy the text into the window? I'm not seeing a way to attach anything.

Screenshot is not needed, simply post the full error message here.
We need any errors that occure in Apaches error.log or the screen of the user and any relating requests reported in the Apache access.log.

Yes, simply copy the contents in your forum post and wrap this into Quote BB-Tags (there is a Button for this in your post input form).

Thanks for the info, Altrea. Please view problem info below when you have a chance. Thank again for the help.

Quick recap:
- I'm able hit access php pages locally using my IP address or hostname instead of localhost. Other users on different systems on internal network cannot.
- I'm successfully using port 8080 instead of 80 for http when hitting it locally; cannot from other systems on internal network (of course).
- I am able to ping the system that is running the Apache web server from other systems.
- I loaded a telnet server on this system and confirmed it works by locally by telnetting into port 23 without issue.
- I try to locally telnet into 8080 and the telnet client just hangs. This may be some sort Apache telnet config issue.

Users get the below message in the browser when they try to use the same URL I use, that should work IMO, which is my computer's hostname substituted for 'local' host:

http://sisomvi.corp.local:8080/dlq/index.php

The above URL works locally.

When attempting to hit from another system, the browser will hang and eventually show the below error:

This site can't be reached

sisomvi.corp.local took too long to respond

Search Google blah blah blah

Below is httpd.conf

Code: Select all
#
# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file.  It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/> for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/mod/directives.html>
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
#
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do.  They're here only as hints or reminders.  If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path.  If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/access_log"
# with ServerRoot set to "/usr/local/apache2" will be interpreted by the
# server as "/usr/local/apache2/logs/access_log", whereas "/logs/access_log"
# will be interpreted as '/logs/access_log'.
#
# NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
# instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache").
# If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which httpd.exe is located
# will be used by default.  It is recommended that you always supply
# an explicit drive letter in absolute paths to avoid confusion.

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path.  If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to specify a local disk on the
# Mutex directive, if file-based mutexes are used.  If you wish to share the
# same ServerRoot for multiple httpd daemons, you will need to change at
# least PidFile.
#
ServerRoot "C:/xampp/apache"

#
# Mutex: Allows you to set the mutex mechanism and mutex file directory
# for individual mutexes, or change the global defaults
#
# Uncomment and change the directory if mutexes are file-based and the default
# mutex file directory is not on a local disk or is not appropriate for some
# other reason.
#
# Mutex default:logs

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
#
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 8080

I don't see anything useful in the error log:

Okay, so intranet requests doesn't reach your Apache on the computer xampp is running on.

Can the external clients suppessfully resolve the url (ping)? To exclude this reason use the intranet ip instead of the computername/ip.
Are there any security software running on the computer? Commonly Firewalls or Antivirus/Antimalware software can produce these type of issue (Especially if you don't use the HTTP default port 80).
We don't provide any support via personal channels like PM, email, Skype, TeamViewer!

It's like porn for programmers 8)

How is "sisomvi.corp.local" resolved on the other clients? Do you have a DNS Server running? Or did you add sisomvi.corp.local into all hosts files? What about a firewall on the Xampp server?

Scoot wrote:I don't believe this is a network or firewall issue because users can hit other webservers on the internal network using port 8080, as can I.

Other webservers are other webservers (i.e. different PCs.) Firefalls are related to Servers, did you check your Xampp Server for a firewall?
