WordPress on XAMPP is working, do I still need the services

Postby stevemd » 07. July 2016 20:07

I am new to XAMPP and following the instructions I've found, everything is working. I have installed and poked around a couple WordPress sites so far and all seems to be fine.

I just noticed that on the left side of the XAMPP control panel is a column of red X's under Modules Service.
1. Do these need to be activated for some reason?
2. What do they do?

Thank you in advance for your help.

They are setting and unsetting the Windows services for the modules

Only if you want to start Apache, MariaDB, etc every time windows starts too.

Fantastic!

Thank you very much for your rapid reply Altrea.

I noticed that after doing that and getting the green check mark in place of the red X, when I start XAMPP, Apache and MySQL are already running and have the green highlight.

Are there any drawbacks to doing this?
When not running XAMPP, do the Apache and MySQL (MarisDB) use computer resources and make my computer slower as a result?

Thank you again for your help in answering my newbie questions.

sure. Every running service is using system ressources. Especially Server Software can use a lot ressources.

Thank you very much Altera.

I'm so glad I found this Forum. It is way better than searching through an endless amount of outdated YouTube videos and still getting no answers.

Hopefully I'll soon be able to contribute with answers myself in addition to simply asking the questions :D

Have an awesome weekend.
