Fails to load (en) after splash screen, newbie problem

Postby nfrared » 23. May 2004 05:32

As is perfectly obvious, I'm a complete newbie who wanted to install xampp so that I could build and view php sites on my computer before transferring them to the server. Of course, the installation went just fine, but I start xampp and, as many people are noticing, I click on (english) on the splash page with the logo, and it ...never... ...loads. I tried changing my connection to a proxy, didn't work. I then went back to a normal connection and turned off the dinky winXP firewall. Didn't help. I don't know what to do!! I've tried using SWAMP too; I couldn't get php files to open with it either and uninstalled it. I was just hoping I could get xampp working. Can you help? :?

Thanks for your time.

it ...never... ...loads

Is there an errormessage shown by the browser?

What happens if you open http://localhost/xampp/ ?

What happens if you click on german?

In which folder have you installed XAMPP?

The german button does the exact same thing.

If I go to http://localhost/xampp/, I get "This page cannot be displayed."

It doesn't display an error message unless I close the dos xampp basic start program. If I leave both the program and the browser window open it just loads to about half way and stays there, without continuing to load any further.

I have xampp installed under C:/xampp

In your message you are trying this address
" http://localhost/xampp/,"
remove the comma and try again

You have to start apache first:

go to xampp/apache/setup_xampp.bat

or if you've already run this file:

xampp/apache/xampp_start.exe

after that go to:

go to xampp/apache/apache_installservice.exe

and to:

go to xampp/mysql/mysql_installservice.exe

now you should be able to view the xampp screen by going to http://localhost/

and then clicking on either english or german
