Trying to upgrade on a drive other than C

Postby Winginsue » 31. March 2016 04:28

Hi, I am running XAMPP 1.7.7 on D drive. I want to upgrade to the latest Xampp 5.6.19 (just downloaded). There are a few issues. First, when I try to install the new version it wants the XAMPP directory to be empty. Okay, I have a backup copy of the whole directory. Onward. So here's what I did:

Uninstalled XAMPP, emptied the directroy.
Installed the new one.
Tried copying the htdocs back from the backup. Tried copying the MySQL.
That didn't seem to work. My MySQL databases and tables were still gone.

Started over.
Tried copying the htdocs back. SO far so good.
Tried creating a database. It worked. Tried importing tables (CREATE TABLE... ) which CLAIMS to have worked but the table doesn't show.

I finally gave up and went back to the old version and restored the data so I'm back at square one. I've had problems trying to find information on installing on a drive other than C so I'm back to the old version and working with it. IT works fine BUT it would be nice to have the most current version.

If anyone could steer me to some documentation of some hints as to what to do I would SO appreciate it.

Thank you so much.

Hi,

Winginsue wrote:My MySQL databases and tables were still gone.

At which place are they gone?

Winginsue wrote:Tried importing tables (CREATE TABLE... ) which CLAIMS to have worked but the table doesn't show.

Again, where?

Nothing magical. Either use the installer version, choose the destination and thats it. All Paths will be corrected by the installer

Or use the zip version, extract it to the destination and execute the setup_xampp.bat script which will edit all needed paths.

best wishes,

Hi Altrea

When I go into localhost/phpMyAdmin and look at the databases and tables.

Same as above.

It would be great if I didn't have to remove everything from the XAMPP directory when installing. The XAMPP runs fine and phpMyAdmin runs fine after the xampp.bat file is run but I can't get back my old databases etc. I will try again and try creating them from scratch and importing again. I will log all steps so that I have better information.
