Problems with localhost

Postby the_warm_observer » 14. March 2016 17:52

Hi all

I am a complete novice when it comes to using an XAMPP installation and would very much appreciate some help with my XAMPP installation.

I am not sure which version of XAMPP I am running. I Downloaded and installed the software on the 18th January 2016. I am rnning the XAMPP installation on a Windows 10 laptop from a Flash Drive.

Until yesterday everything was working properly. I installed some windows 10 updates. I can run the control panel Ver: 3.2.1 but when I click on Start Apache I get the following error message:

15:01:27 [main] Checking for prerequisites
15:01:27 [main] All prerequisites found
15:01:27 [main] Initializing Modules
15:01:27 [main] Starting Check-Timer
15:01:27 [main] Control Panel Ready
15:01:33 [Apache] Attempting to start Apache app...
15:01:33 [Apache] Status change detected: running
15:01:34 [Apache] Status change detected: stopped
15:01:34 [Apache] Error: Apache shutdown unexpectedly.
15:01:34 [Apache] This may be due to a blocked port, missing dependencies,
15:01:34 [Apache] improper privileges, a crash, or a shutdown by another method.

15:01:34 [Apache] the Windows Event Viewer for more clues
15:01:34 [Apache] If you need more help, copy and post this
15:01:34 [Apache] entire log window on the forums

When I click on Start MySQL I get the following error message:-

15:02:59 [mysql] Attempting to start MySQL app...
15:03:00 [mysql] Status change detected: running
15:03:01 [mysql] Status change detected: stopped
15:03:01 [mysql] Error: MySQL shutdown unexpectedly.
15:03:01 [mysql] This may be due to a blocked port, missing dependencies,
15:03:01 [mysql] improper privileges, a crash, or a shutdown by another method.

15:03:01 [mysql] the Windows Event Viewer for more clues
15:03:01 [mysql] If you need more help, copy and post this
15:03:01 [mysql] entire log window on the forums

I have found a set of instructions on the internet that showed me how to change Port 80 to Port 85 and how to use resource monitor and I do not have any applications using Port 80.

Many thanks in anticipation of help.

Hi,

This should give you the knowledge to identify the specific issue:
=> [Q&A] Insufficient debug information - Apache starting issue

It should help to identify your specific XAMPP version too because it is listed in the full control panel logs.

best wishes,
Altrea

Hi Altrea

Thanks very much for the very helpful and useful link that you posted.

I have resolved the issue I had with apache not starting.

My laptop when I downloaded and setup XAMPP had given my flash drive the dive letter of f: and then when I tried to use my Xammp installation on the 14th of March. My laptop had changed the drive letter from f: to G: by using the start apache batch file i was able to find the files that needed editing.

I now have a problem with MySOL not starting, below is the content of the full XAMPP control panel log window contents with the MySQL error log in a separate post.

This could be because you hit a bug. It is also possible that this binary
or one of the libraries it was linked against is corrupt, improperly built,
or misconfigured. This error can also be caused by malfunctioning hardware.
We will try our best to scrape up some info that will hopefully help
diagnose the problem, but since we have already crashed,
something is definitely wrong and this may fail.

It is possible that mysqld could use up to
key_buffer_size + (read_buffer_size + sort_buffer_size)*max_threads = 133634 K bytes of memory
Hope that's ok; if not, decrease some variables in the equation.
