Thank you, my browser said it cannot connect to the local host.

I re-started my control panel and then clicked start for Apache and it just gets stuck on the startup and does not give me the green light:

4:51:13 PM [main] Starting Check-Timer

Goes no further...

This is the main error:

httpd.exe: Syntax error on line 72 of C:/xampp/apache/conf/httpd.conf: Cannot lo
ad modules/mod_access_compat.so into server: The specified module could not be f
ound.

Edit httpd.conf and look for line 72 (did you edit it previously?).

And this is as well very strange:

ServerRoot = c:/Apache24

Someone (you??) must have changed httpd.conf, did you copy another version from somewhere else?

Re: Apache won't start from my Control Panel

Thank you for your help. I did change the httpd config file per a Dreamweaver Guide as to where to store my documents. I changed it back and this did not solve the problem.

Regarding Syntax error on line 72, this line begins with # and is simply a comment. Don't know why there is an error there.
Regarding the install log, ServerRoot = c:/Apache24 (not something I changed) line 56, the installation on my computer setup C:/xampp/htdocs as the server root location. I tried to change line 56 to this path and this did not help to load Apache. It is doing the same thing, when I click the start button it just hangs up while loading.

There is an originals folder that looks as if there is another httpd config file and I replaced it and this did not help either. It was working before I followed the Dreamweaver instructions regarding some configuration changes. When I look at the error logs they don't seem to update even after I made some changes to try to fix the problem.

Is there a way to refresh these error log files? Should I uninstall and start over?

I would start over because i have no idea what you already tried and changed to solve that problem.
On a fresh installation the compat module is present, activated and running.

Heard nothing back from anyone so I went ahead and uninstalled xampp and then re-installed it. It loads with the green light as does MySQL and FileZilla. Do have the Apache error "XAMPP Apache is already running on port 80" and "XAMPP Apache is already running on port 443". I have read several solution options but am now hesitant to edit the config file. I checked netstats to see what is already using these ports on my system and it appears to be a user ID, not software.

Please advise the correct option to fix the error or not to do anything.
