Hi, new to XAMPP and questions about PHPmyAdmin/MYSQL

Postby WesleyA » 15. October 2015 09:53

Hi everyone.

I have XAMPP running but not sure if it is good.

The startup at localhost is okay and so is php info and I have access to PHPmyAdmin, but here I find some red error messages. So I want to configure MYSQL in the right way so first for MySQL I have set a password for root.

Also at phmyadmin I set passwords for localhost, 127.0.0.1 and ::1.

in config.inc.php I added the password.

Code: Select all
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'config';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'] = 'root';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = 'MyPassword';

The error messages are:

1) The phpMyAdmin configuration storage is not completely configured, some extended features have been deactivated. Find out why.
Or alternately go to 'Operations' tab of any database to set it up there.

2) Connection for controluser as defined in your configuration failed.

3) Your PHP parameter session.gc_maxlifetime is lower than cookie validity configured in phpMyAdmin, because of this, your login might expire sooner than configured in phpMyAdmin.

Can someone explain why these messages do show up and how to solve them?

Furthermore I dont see a login screen before going to phpMyadmin. I would like t know how this is set up.

When you enter these messages in Google, you receive thousands of explanations and solutions.

To keep it short: you may also simply ignore these messages, you dont need a controluser etc. for phpmyadmin, this is only a sophisticated feature for statistical reports on your data. It is not necessary at runtime for your applications.

Can I leave the rules for the standard controluser pma out of config.inc.php?

I decided not to set auth for ph myadmin.

But still I find complications. I created a test database, but when making tables i received an error message again.

this is the output of the error message

Code: Select all

For an unknown reason, it is not good for you. I think, you should not use Xampp. We cannot answer to your very strange problems. If have never seen these before. Uninstall everything and try a different product.

I think this is quite unfair you are posting this. I need an explanation for this. If all people are using XAMPP then I would like to know why I cant.

If phpMyAdmin in that specific XAMPP version is working for all the other users but not for you, then the most common answer would be that you or your system have done something different.

I don't know. It is your system. You are the only person in the world who could know anything about your system and the things you do.

Yes well that is what I'm fearing now. I also use WAMP but have problems with WAMP running specific apps. The problem started when using the TOR browser a couple of weeks ago. It is the second time in less then a year, I used The Onion Router but this time I kept having problems with WAMP. I meanwhile removed TOR and thought I wouldnt have any problem if I used XAMPP for instance. As a programmer I think it is useful to have alternatives so you can continue programming.

Another issue I have is with hackers, Chinese people who tried to hack me with Microsoft fraude or 'Indische fraude' as it is known here in the Netherlands. When they gain a telephone number you suddenly get telephone calls from India, China or Indonesians or other Asian trying to change to virus scan settings. It is possible that this group of Chinese students or just one Chinese individual studying in Enschede Holland tries to thwart me, pretending they are ethical hackers but in real could be working for a computer fraude gang and yeah my fear is they could be working in project like Apace Friends.

I say it in this way because if your reaction Nobbie is shocking to me. It sounds very personal. If you dont mean it personal then it's fallacious. That would also be serious and is a communication error.

I had the feeling it that there could be a conspiracy of programmers towards me.

That is of course possible but I would like to know more about you and why you say it.

Can you help me with this?

We can not help you solving paranoia.

We have told you that your problem is very uncommon. We haven't seen that before and recommend you to uninstall and reinstall to start over again.

i think you got it slightly wrong, its not personal, of course not.

You simply said, you dont know if Xampp "is good for you". In my mind, if you think that it is not good, you dont need to use it. There are plenty of other options. Xampp is only a distribution and you may of course run all parts of Xampp (Apache, MySQL, PHP etc.) without using Xampp. It is simply that, what i mean. Dont use Xampp, if you think, it is not good. This does NOT mean, do not run Apache, or do not run MySQL, or do not run PhpMyAdmin etc. - simply install them seperately or use a different distribution.

Its nothing personal.
