Access Security - directory & subdirectory

following folder structure:

Rootfolder "ROOT"
Subfolder "SUBROOT"

I would like to have an password question (.htaccess) to the ROOT directory, but to access the subdirectory there should be an extra .htaccess question

But i don´t want to have two security popup windows to enter the subroot directory

i hope someone can help me

There is a quite complex example for mod_authz_core on the Apache Documentation, maybe you will find there what you are looking for:

I think, a mix of RequireAll and RequireAny Container may work for you.
