Large file size import

Postby hwalker1 » 07. August 2015 15:58

I have an sql dump file to import that is 90megabyutes in size. According to phpMyadmin documentation, the latest version of the program should not have a problem with this.
Having had major problems with XAMPP 5.6.8 in that I can find no way of setting it up properly on my system without it destroying all my databases, I am loath to try installing a later version
so that I can download the data dumps from my websites. With about ten sites, its becoming a pain to use.

Can anyone tell me if any version of phpMyAdmin that comes with XAMPP can read in a mysqldump of this size? I have set up the variables to do this recommended by other users but I cannot get them to work. I always get a message saying that my file exceeds the maximum allowed of 48 meg.
The only way that I have managed to do it in the past is by splitting the file using note pad and downloading parts of it, but it is very difficult in a file that is so large.
All help gratefully received.

Why do you want to use phpmyadmin?
I would recommend the command line: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=56104&sid=efaaef39206371cb04acd2e171835751#p220404

Dont use Xampp and everything is fine. Xampp is only a distribution, and as you dont like it, dont use it.

There is no Xampp on Webhosting Space, so you get used to the "real word", when you avoid Xampp.

Nobbie I love Xampp. Been using it for 15 years or so. Just had a problem and searched for an answer.
I thought this forum was to help one another, not get ratty and bite someones head off when they ask a question.
This is the windows part of the forum is it not? Never ever used the command line since I used to write dos 3 programs back in the 1980s.
I use PhpMyAdmin because it is a good tool, and the host that I use provides it to upload my data to.
No way to do this using a command line that I am aware of, without lots of help from your IT host re paths etc.
Unless someone else knows better.
Thanks to the other replies, which do provide a suitable method.

Php programs like phpmyadmin does have some time and size limits you can avoid with the command line.

The other possibility would be to increase the php settings post_max_size and
upload_max_filesize
