XAMPP mySQL Error establishing a database connection

Postby Trevose » 22. June 2015 00:26

I used the windows restore point to restore my c:drive to how it was a couple of days ago and now get a " Error establishing a database connection" when using the localhost/xxx.com command to open my local wordpress site

When I go to the C:\xampp\mysql\data\xxx folder there are many wp***.ibd files which I suspect contains my wordpress data

However when I use the xampp control panel and go to mysql/admin the database is empty.

Is there any hope that I can restore the database or will I have to rebuild my site from scratch (panic ..)

Do you have phpmyadmin? is it completely blank (not even basic databases that come with xampp like cdcol, test)? Are you sure mysql service is started properly?

Yes I do have phpmyadmin
both Apache and mySQL have been started
I can see both cdcol and test
and also a director for my wordpress database "xxx"
but, when I click on "xxx" i see the message "no tables in database"

As I noted above there are several wp***.ibd files in the C:\xampp\mysql\data\xxx directory. Some are quite large so I assume they contain the wp data . I hope there is a way of recovery the data ...

Thank you for any help you can provide

Here are a couple links that I found that may help (people with similar issues with different solutions). I would highly recommend starting to do backups as this is why they are important in case the hard drive crashes/stops working properly.
