Recover Locally Hosted Site off Crashed HDD - XAMPP

Postby Micci101 » 18. May 2015 10:42

Hi Guys

I hope you have the time to assist me.

My HDD crashed a couple days ago and I managed to salvage all the information from it and copy it onto a new HDD.

I'm fairly new to xampp, so please bare with me !

I have the entire Xampp folder, is it possible to save and open the site I was working on - onto my new pc ?

Your help would be MOST appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

If you have recovered all files I don't see a problem. Just copy the xampp directory to the same place it resided on the old disk (Usually C:\xampp) and start the control panel.

My system software had to be reinstalled (Windows 8 pro 64bit) and the Xampp folder was just copied onto the new HDD.

Therefore all the programmes theoretically have to be downloaded and reinstalled again.

Which folders and how exactly should I do that ?

Sorry I'm a newbie to this, so I am not entirely technically inclined.

As "Glitzi85" already said, the folder /xampp from you old HDD. Copy the whole folder to the Drive C:.

"How to do"? With a file explorer, copy & paste?! This is very very basic Windows knowledge.

This looks very bad, either there is problem with a mix of 32 and 64 bits environment (not sure about that), or the data of your crashed HDD is corrupted.

Copy out the current xampp installation to somewhere safe (my documents, desktop, whatever).

Using a freshly downloaded copy of 5.6.3 - install to the same directory as the previous version (ideally using the exe http://sourceforge.net/projects/xampp/f ... e/download)
Run the xampp installer as is (accepting all defaults)
Go to localhost to make sure it works by default.
Copy the subfolders from your htdocs and MySQL-> Data folder and see if it runs like it should.

I have tried the above, all worked fine until I tried copying the folders.

This error occured after the copy:

10:54:10 AM [mysql] Status change detected: stopped
10:54:10 AM [mysql] Error: MySQL shutdown unexpectedly.

I am afraid I am doing something incorrectly.
As you may have noticed I am far from an expert at this.
I am pretty sure I used some sort of plugin to back it up.
But I can't remember which plugin it was ...

Here is the folder in a dropbox link, perhaps you wouldn't mind trying it out yourself and possibly you will get lucky ?

What is the error shown? This should be found under the folder: XAMPP Path->MySQL->Data->mysql_error.txt
Please copy and paste the logs here as I could not find them in dropbox.
