How self-contained is XAMPP?

Is all of XAMPP contained below /opt/lampp?
If so, can I copy the whole caboodle from my desktop to my laptop and it will just work?
My laptop has Lubuntu 14.10 but I will change it to Debian wheezy if necessary.

My reason for asking my question was because I had a vague idea XAMPP might be more portable than natively installing Apache, Mysql, PHP and that a direct copy to my laptop would act like a backup as well as enabling me to take my websites with me when I needed to. But it would be a huge copy each time and a native installation using apt-get works great, gets automatically updated and is also very easy to copy the websites and the mysql onto the laptop, especially now I've got the same OS on both.
