Can't get MySQL to run after XAMPP installation

Hi,

I just installed xampp onto my Maxbook (running OS 10.9). I can not get MySQL to run from the xampp manager. The status begins with "Starting.." and then reverts back to "Stopped". I am new to this as I have just begun an online course in MySQL so I have no idea what exactly to do here.

Please help me.

Also I am running XAMPP v. 1.8.3-3.
