XAMPP installation messed up my pc

Postby doug999 » 12. December 2014 15:51

I installed XAMPP about a week ago. Once installed I could no longer use firefox or my ms mail.

I uninstalled XAMPP but still couldn't use mail of ff.

I uninstalled ff and re-installed it - still no good. I tried help from various ff forums and in the end I deleted all mozilla files from the pc and the registry then re-installed ff. Now it start but looks weird and still won't work - I can type into search bar or address bar but nothing happens.

I had to rename something in the windows mail directory to get that working.

IE9 works sort of but won't recognise either apachefriends or wordpress sites.

Now I find that photoshop cs4 no longer works. Removal and reinstallation of that doesn't work either.

So now I have a pc withe several tens of thousands of photoshop images on he attached storage but I can't access them because an XAMPP installation completely screwed up my machine.

Btw, XAMPP was the ONLY thing I tried installing for quite a while, so it can't be blamed on anything else

Any ideas? - oh, I can't afford to buy a new pc and I certainly don't want to spend a week building a new disc.

XAMPP is not the reason for your problems.
The XAMPP installation is nothing more than an extraction of files and if you use the installer some registry keys for uninstalling.
How should that screw up your pc?

You have to find a different reason for this, maybe malware or something else which could happen even without any installation attempts.

The first thing I tried was a virus scan - 3 of them in fact - microsoft malicious software removal tool to find anything running in memory, malwarebytes and microsoft security essential to find anything else - none of them found anything. I also ran ccleaner and regedit to pull all the xampp, apache, php and mysql stuff from eth rergistry but all to no avail.

I've compleetely removed firefox and reinstaled it several times, it start but that's it, it won't go anywhere.

Photoshop and ulead videostudio are the same, they just won't run, removal and reinstallation doesn't work either.

I'm still finding progams that no longer work after installing xampp.

I'll rebuild the pc over the next few days, one thing is for sure though, I'll never use xampp again.

Xampp is still not the reason for your problems.
But i am sure, if somebody needs to find a scapegoat for a behavior he is not able to figure out himself (because of lack of knowledge) he would choose XAMPP as a candidate for it.

Simply don't use XAMPP and all of your and our Problems are solved. That is an brillant idea 8)
