Installing XAMPP on a school server

I'm a total apache noob so please forgive my simple question...

I'm unable to install XAMPP on a high school computer, probably due to firewalls....and other factors I'm not sure about. Would someone please let me know what information/questions I need to provide/ask our IT department in order to install XAMPP?

Any advice is much appreciated!

To elaborate....

I've already installed it on a local computer but I don't have access to MySql or Apache so I can only assume it is a permissions or port issue (?). I'm unclear as to how I should explain what i need in order to get a working install.

Update:
After deleting and re-installing XAMPP very carefully (I used the installer file vs the zip file, in case that matters?), i achieved a successful setup and am running it on a local computer at the school no problem.
