phpmyadmin can't access mysql after changing localhost PW

I have the same problem, I can't login to mysql, but when I change my password manually and auth_type to config then I get this error:
MySQL said:
Cannot connect: invalid settings.
and I can't see login page anymore.
How to fix this? this is so annoying, changing password should be much easier!!!

I change MySQL user passwords very often and never had problems with it.
So very common you are doing it wrong.

But without providing us detailed information about the steps you have done it is impossible to provide proper help relating to your specific issue.
