Xampp 1.8.3-2 no connection to MySQL Database

Who has an idea to fix the problem? Just right after installing XAMMP runs without any problems. After relaunching the system ( OS X 10.6.8 ) MySQL won't start again. The Apache Webserver is working fine.

Obviously, you changed permissions of the XAMPP installation folder after installation. Therefore the configuration file of MySQL "my.cnf" (see above for full path) is ignored. This leads to subsequent errors. Due to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1309 ... phpmyadmin you have to change permissons of my.cnf to 600 (chmod 600 my.cnf).

Hi, would appreciate some help please. I've just uploaded the latest XAMPP version (4 times!!). I've completely removed all previous versions of XAMPP and started with a clean slate each time. I have diligently gone over permissions - all is well there. Apache Web Server works fine but when I start the MySQL Database it starts, then stops, with no error message. I've checked on line and others appear to have the same issue but with different solutions. One of the fixes suggested using Applications/Utlities/Terminal and to type in: cd /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/etc/ (recommended by Rishi Kalia). The problem is that when I enter the code provided, I get the following message:

apples-MacBook-Air:~ nikibullas$ cd/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/etc/
-bash: cd/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/etc/: No such file or directory
apples-MacBook-Air:~ nikibullas$

Does anyone have any other suggestions for me please, I've wasted way too much time on this. Very frustrating, so close ....

I would be very grateful if someone can come up with a fix - I am not a techie, so it will need to be in simple language and easy steps :?:
