#2002 Cannot log in to the MySQL server...

...Connection for controluser as defined in your configuration failed. That is the error message I get when I try to log into mysql from localhost/phpmyadmin. I keep getting that I have read through installation guides and instructions to no avail. Here is the error log that comes up when I try to open mysql from the xampp control panel:

I also have additional error logs from previous efforts to access the database. I'm using Xampp v3.2.1 and Windows Vista.

I have been trying to set up a local testing server for a production remote site I want to go public with soon. I was/ am not very clear about all the configuration files that need to be changed. I have changed the server, database name, user, password, and prefix in the config.settings.inc file in my program files (in htdocs) to match the ones for the new database (where I imported my production database).

Any help or pointers are GREATLY apprevciated!

Anyone let me k

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm copying a database that uses version 5.5.34 of MySQL. Since XAMPP 1.8.2 uses MySQL 5.5.32, would it be a problem to go back and just reinstall 1.8.2 instead of the bugged v.1.8.3? The version of PHP I'm using is older, so that shouldn't be an issue. I'm just not sure about the MySQL version.

Thank you very much!

Sorry, forgot to ask a point of clarification about the other bug fix... If I just delete \xampp\mysql\data\ibdata1, then should everything work with 1.8.3? I would just need to re-import my database after deleting \xampp\mysql\data\ibdata1,then I should be able to successfully start MySQL or access phpMyAdmin, right?

i don't think so. Using a MySQL version of at least the same Minor version (5.5.X) should always be possible without problems.

mySQL will start again, but your InnoDB databases will be lost and the problem can/will reappear.
